The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1

I understand that I am seriously risking my manliness by putting a review up for this particular movie. Although there is fairly high risk, I am still willing to put it up. It comes down to this – I sucked it up and was a good boyfriend, and this is what I thought.

Team Wolfpire?

I have to preface this review by saying that I have never read any of the Twilight books. I didn’t have the slightest idea what was going to happen. I only have my experience of watching the other three Twilight movies to base this review from.

On that note, I was thoroughly confused.

After watching the first two movies, I was under the impression that Edward and Jacob hated each other. Like the type of hate that would lead to battles until the end of time. From the beginning of Breaking Dawn, it was quite clear that this was no longer the case. In some scenes they were all buddy-buddy and in others they were ready to throw down. This just didn’t really make a whole lot of sense to me.

Sex, Talk, Repeat

Now again, I have not read the books, but for real, what the hell is the deal with all the sex? Literally 95% of this movie is Edward and Bella boning. I mean I get it, it plays into the central part of the plot, but let’s get real. The writers could have easily shown them getting it on for a scene or two and then moved on. There was simply nothing else going on for almost the entire film.

Once the writers finally got past the fact that they had sex, it picked up with about 10 minutes to go in the movie. There’s a tiny bit of action and some serious drama. This helped to save the film a little, but it didn’t nearly make up for the first hour and 45 minutes.

The Bottom Line

I can emphatically say: skip this one. Even if you were a fan of the books or the previous movies I can’t see this one striking a cord with anyone. Breaking Dawn is flat out boring. There is too much PDA and not enough story. I could have slept through the first hour and 45 minutes, watched the last 10, and known exactly what happened throughout the entire thing. Save your money on this one and go check something else out this week.
